Tender issued for the removal of invasive alien species in coastal lagoon environments in Galician localities of LIFE GLOBAL

As part of the LIFE GLOBAL project, the Xunta de Galicia has issued a tender for a new project for the removal of invasive alien species in coastal lagoon environments, with planned actions in lagoa dos Nenos, in the ZEC Illas Cíes, and in the lagoons of Carregal, Vixán, Muro and Xuño, in the ZEC Corrubedo Wetland Complex, two areas included in the Natura 2000 Network, which also have the status of National Park and Natural Park.

With an investment exceeding 150,000 euros, the works, which will run until 2028, include selective interventions, mostly manual, on around twenty invasive alien species, and will be carried out until 2028, with an initial removal phase in 2026 and subsequent monitoring to control regrowth. Intervention is planned over a total of more than 200 hectares.

This action creates strong synergy with LIFE INSULAR, which carries out its actions in adjacent dune ecosystems, thereby enhancing and catalyzing the results of both projects, contributing to the establishment of a comprehensive strategy to combat the adverse effects of invasive alien species in coastal natural ecosystems.
