New volunteer work to eliminate invasives in the ZEC Costa da Morte, Arteixo, Galicia.

The Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo Biosphere Reserve held a new day of removal of invasive exotic species in the Costa da Morte SAC, one of the core areas of the Biosphere Reserve, specifically in the town hall of Arteixo.

With a group of 35 girls from a school in A Coruña, we visited the Costa da Morte Special Area of Conservation (SAC) to learn about this area and to protect it by removing invasive exotic species. We managed to remove almost 1 ton of Carpobrotus edulis, an invasive species that is very prevalent in this coastal area. One of the objectives of this project is the control and elimination of competition exerted by IAS that is causing an impact on the composition, structure and functions of priority habitats, in this case the Atlantic wet heaths.
