Held the launch meeting of LIFE GLOBAL in León (Spain)

The LIFE GLOBAL project, which has begun this month of June, has held its launch meeting at the Inbiotec – CESEFOR facilities (León, Spain), during the past 25 June 2024. The general objective of LIFE GLOBAL is the implementation of a transnational strategy between Spain and Portugal for the restoration of the high-conservation-value Natura 2000 areas of the north of the Iberian Peninsula, as the main measure of adaptation to the current global changes, improving the conservation status and the resilience of 10 habitats and 3 species, all of them priority, which are considered representative of the Atlantic and Mediterranean biogeographical regions, as well as the 3 scenarios of greatest conservation value of northern Iberia. The project has great demonstrative and pilot potential, which allows high transferability and replicability to other European territories where high-conservation-value areas are concentrated and isolated in highly fragmented and vulnerable mosaic complexes.

The meeting has allowed all the teams of the 11 beneficiaries that make up the project, distributed across 5 regions of northern Spain (Galicia, Castilla y León, Euskadi, Navarra) and Portugal (Região Norte), to come together for the creation of the management bodies and the working teams of each beneficiary, as well as to establish the first priorities and tasks to be carried out by the project. Likewise, the meeting served as a presentation of the project in Castilla y León, to the media and, by extension, to the population of that region.
