The scope of the Corrubedo Wetland Complex SAC (ES1110006) covers wetlands, dune systems, and a wide marine strip, including Sálvora Island and its protected island environment. It is located within the Atlantic biogeographic region and includes, from north to south, the coastal territory at the southern end of the Muros e Noia estuary, where the Muro e Xuño wetland complex and its associated dune system (Porto do Son area) are located; the large sandy amphitheater of Corrubedo, which forms the transition between the Muros e Noia estuary and the Arousa estuary; and Sálvora Island and its islets: Vionta, Con de Noro, Herbosa, Rúa, Insabela, Gaboteira, Sagres, and Forcadiñas, located at the entrance to the Arousa estuary.

Area (ha): 9.262,87 ha
Natura 2000 Code: ES1110006
Other protection statuses according to national or regional legislation:
The territorial scope of this SAC fully encompasses the Corrubedo Coastal Complex SPA ES0000313. This SAC is included in the Galician Network of Protected Areas under different categories (National Park, Natural Park, Protected Wetland, Natura 2000 Protected Area), which, in accordance with Law 42/2007 (state) and Law 5/2019 (regional), are considered Protected Natural Areas (PNA). It also includes the declaration of part of its scope under the categories of Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, OSPAR Marine Protected Area, and inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, all of which are considered Protected Areas by International Instruments under Law 42/2007 and Law 5/2019.
CURRENT SITUATION AND CONSERVATION ACTIONS OF THE PROJECT
Approximately 80% of the Corrubedo Wetland Complex (ES1110006) is marine. Of the remaining 20% (land area), natural environments (dune systems, coastal lagoons, coastal scrub, rainforests, and cliffs) represent 62% of the territory, agricultural use 18%, areas with forest plantations 11%, urban use 2%, and tourism is concentrated in beach systems and other designated areas (6%).
The marine surface of the Corrubedo Wetland Complex SAC (80%) is territorial sea of the Spanish State, while the ownership of the land surface of the SAC is divided into 54% public ownership (owned by DXPN, associated beneficiary of LIFE GLOBAL), 42% private ownership and 4% common ownership of the neighbouring mountains (specific Galician property regime whereby the property is in the hands of a group of neighbours).
This area has a large complex of vulnerable ecosystems that harbor high biodiversity, making it an ecological enclave of great value. Considering the strategic role of these ecosystems, LIFE GLOBAL includes a series of specific conservation measures in the Corrubedo Wetland Complex SAC (ES1110006) to improve the conservation status of type 1150*, whose sensitivity and fragility to the threats and pressures detected by this project is greater than in other habitats present.
