The Lagoas de Tera and Vidriales SAC is made up of two relatively large, scattered lagoon areas on either side of the Tera Valley in the north-central area of Zamora province, plus four smaller, more distant lagoon areas, where populations of Eryngium viviparum stand out, located near the border with León province, including areas of seven Zamora municipalities.

Within the territorial scope of the SAC, other protected statuses are included in accordance with national or regional legislation. The proposed Flora Microreserve ZA-001 Lagoa do Italiano (Melgar de Tera, Zamora) covers an area of 3.74 hectares. A Protected Area under International Instruments has also been identified with Biosphere Reserve status: the Iberian Plateau Transboundary Biosphere Reserve.
CURRENT SITUATION AND CONSERVATION ACTIONS OF THE PROJECT
The majority of land use in the Lagoas de Tera and Vidriales SAC is forested, with a distinction between open forest (35%), closed forest (30%), scrubland (15%), and pastureland (13%). The remainder is agricultural land (7%).
Regarding land ownership, the majority is privately owned (88%), while the remaining 8% is publicly owned. The remaining 4% is considered undetermined. The proposed actions in the project on habitat 3170* Mediterranean Temporary Ponds and on species 1603* Eryngium viviparum and its habitat are located on publicly owned land.
The populations of Eryngium viviparum 1603* in this SAC are significant, and its inclusion in the project is considered essential for the conservation of the species at the regional level. The actions proposed by the project in SAC ES4190134 Lagoas de Tera y Vidriales will significantly contribute to the conservation of the populations and habitat of the Eryngium viviparum 1603* species.
