On 22 July 2025, an activity to remove invasive alien species was carried out in the Costa da Morte Special Area of Conservation (SAC), in Galicia, focused on the manual removal of ice plant (Carpobrotus edulis).

The activity began at the car park of Alba beach in Arteixo, where the participants were welcomed by the LIFE GLOBAL team (Mariñas Coruñesas Biosphere Reserve), given the location of the action, and were provided with suitable material for the day (gloves, baskets).

The technical staff of the Biosphere Reserve provided information and outreach material about the LIFE Global project, the actions being carried out, and training to recognise the invasive plant Carpobrotus edulis, the objective of the volunteering day. In the LIFE Global project, as a guarantee to avoid possible damage, no chemical products (herbicides, photochemicals) are used in its control. Therefore, the removal of this plant is carried out strictly by hand.

During the environmental volunteering day, 700 kilos of Carpobrotus edulis were manually removed, which were managed through the municipal corporation with an authorised waste manager.
