Between September 1st and 4th, 2025, a team of three people (Yvon Guillevic, Noel Bayer, and Martin Filan) from the environmental organization Bretagne Vivante, based in Brittany (NW France), attended a networking workshop to exchange information on the conservation and management of Eryngium viviparum. This Atlantic endemic, small biennial hydrophyte of the Apiaceae family grows in plains and clay depressions subject to temporary flooding in Brittany, northern Portugal, and northwestern Spain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To mark this event, populations of this species were visited in Northwest Spain (Terra Ch\u00e1, A Limia, Zamora) and Northern Portugal (Bragan\u00e7a). In each of these locations, the various beneficiaries and partner organizations of LIFE GLOBAL participated: IBADER of the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Galician Society of Natural History, the Regional Government of Castile and Le\u00f3n, the Mountain Research Center of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragan\u00e7a, and the National Institute for Forest Conservation (ICNF). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comprehensive visit made it possible to assess the population dynamics of the visited locations (having been the subject of similar visits prior to LIFE GLOBAL) and to confirm the high fragility and vulnerability they present in the face of climate change, to evaluate the main causes of threat to this species, and to share the most appropriate management measures (both in situ and ex situ) to ensure the preservation of the species in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
